Spirit Streams Video Experience – Spring Creek Headwaters: July 2022

Welcome to the Driftless Area, the true spring creek paradise! Where fly fishing and God intersect.

This short film marks the third installment of a new level experience that Spirit Streams will take you along into the Driftless Area. This third installment was filmed in the Wisconsin Driftless Area during a single evening in late July 2022. All brown trout caught were wild and produced from the pristine and unique spring creek ecosystem that is found prolifically throughout the 24,000 square mile area that we call the Driftless Area. The Driftless Area is such an intimate environment that positions you to become closer to not just yourself but everything else around you, and most importantly God.

This is the third of many upcoming Spirit Streams new level video installments that will capture the story that is the Driftless Area, fly fishing, spring creeks, wild trout, and God; get ready to experience it like never before! This particular installment was a special one because it focused on the spring creek headwaters in the middle of Summer. The Driftless Area fisheries are unique in so many ways but one of those foundational differences is the water source that feeds the 600 trout streams in this 24,000 square mile area…underground springs. Our streams are constantly being fed and purified by thousands of spring feeders that emerge from hillsides and bubbling springs directly from the ground. The water is a constant 48° temperature coming out of the ground 365 days per year. This means that our fisheries stay cooler during the heat of Summer and stay warmer during the cold of Winter; in other words, trout fishing is not only possible but highly productive all year long in and throughout the Driftless Area. In fact, this 48° spring water that emerges from the ground is so clean and pure that you can drink directly from it as you will see in this video installment.

The other special feature throughout this video installment was showcasing the enhanced layer of intimacy experienced within the environment of the spring creek tributary headwaters. These headwater streams are more narrow, more gin-clear, more heavily wooded, more thickly vegetated, more technical, and more challenging; but also very rewarding in so many ways. It brings you so close to the extreme complexity and diversity of life that is immersed within the Driftless spring creek ecosystem. The wild brown trout found within these headwaters just seem to exude deeper colors and more defined patterns along their flanks. The sheer amount of insect life in these headwater reaches is absolutely immense. The spring creek tributary headwaters are certainly a special characteristic of the Driftless Area.

Lastly, we end this prelude to our third installment video experience in the manner the video begins. The opening scene proclaims a foundational truth and reality that flows within and through all aspects of Spirit Streams. This foundational truth is found in the God-breathed, God-inspired Book of Romans that was penned by the apostle Paul in AD 56-57. God has revealed Himself in three ways to all of humanity: 1) General Revelation, 2) Special Revelation, and 3) Divine Revelation. Romans 1:20 speaks to the reality of General Revelation that has always been presented and at the forefront of mankind’s eyes ever since creation Day 6. It is a foundational truth and reality that you will see and feel and understand throughout all aspects of Spirit Streams. As the apostle Paul penned it in Romans 1:20, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” All of mankind is without excuse; the extreme diversity, complexity, beauty, awe, lifeforms, ecosystems, and miracles surrounds us each and every day in and throughout all of creation. There is so much more that can be said and so much more context to be added here, but we’ll rest in this reality at this time. General Revelation in both nature and conscience is a strong apologetic for the truth of God.
