Stream Report Compilation Update: April thru June 2023

Where did the last several months go?  We would like to give you a synopsis of the last three months on the Driftless streams, their hatches, highlights and expectations of what we’re looking forward to.  First of all, thank you to all our customer friends, colleagues and true sportsmen and women who came and enjoyed this wonderful Driftless Area together with us.  Your love and respect for this precious resource is so heartwarming that we get so excited for your enjoyment and success.  It is truly a joy for us to share those magical moments with you on the stream.  The streams wintered over well and with the recent lack of rain the flow is maintained by the myriads of feeder springs.  We haven’t fished any area over 55 degrees water temperature.  The hatches have been consistent but spotty in some instances.  By far the most exciting hatch was a Baetis (BWO) hatch during a very cold, windy and snow squall peppered day.  It was truly amazing.  Reminiscing over these 3 months, numerous trout were caught with the largest in the 16″-18″ range and we always love those beautiful “best of show” trout that have just unforgettable beautiful markings.  Many refer to them as the “butter browns”.  Looking to the future, we’re starting to see those little bitty hoppers along the stream, and you know what that means!  Last year hopper season went right into October and then back to Baetis in November.  Of course, those midges are around all the time and never forget about those Caddis. The seasons of the Driftless – enjoy them all!
