Today marked Day 4 of our Driftless Excursion to explore and discover as many new trout streams and sections as possible. We continued to do quite a lot of trout scouting today which included multiple streams and several sections. There was a couple that were true gems, while others had too high of water temperatures or were too thickly lined with vegetation during this time of year. One of the gem streams was situated in a beautiful valley with several rock outcroppings and overlaid with pastoral pastures. There is just something about wading in the middle of a crystal-clear spring creek, casting your fly line, working your fly, gazing at the beautifully painted wild brown trout, hearing the hawk screams overhead, and being alongside grazing cattle. It was these pastoral pastures that proved to be the Driftless Riches today. It’s hard to not be re-energized, refocused, and repositioned to what matters most when you’re within these absolutely beautiful created spring creek environments. On back-to-back days, our Driftless hopper proved to produce at stellar rates as the stream banks were plastered with grasshoppers.
