Today marked Day 1 of our Driftless Excursion to explore and discover as many new trout streams and sections as possible. This isn’t about just checking streams off the list, it’s more about completely poring into these new streams and sections by logging the hours and miles to give each new section of water a fair shake. Today started at 5:00am and ended around 7:00pm. Some very productive new water was discovered, while also some less desirable water being noted. The morning started with rain so we saw excellent trout action on streamers and nymphs. As the day progressed, the wild trout shifted their attention to terrestrials and tiny blue-winged olive dries. The Driftless Riches of wild smells of peppermint, bald eagles overhead, lush hillsides, deep and tight valleys, consistently cold and crystal-clear spring creek water, and numerous wild brown trout continue to refresh and refuel the soul deeper and wider. Looking forward to all that will be discovered and made new on Day 2 tomorrow.
