Forecast: 86℉, 5 mph wind, clear/sunny, 80% humidity
Stream Conditions: clear/normal levels, water temp was 62℉
Insect Hatching Activity: Caddis, Blue-Winged Olive, Midge, Crane Fly, Sulphur, Terrestrials

After a mid-90 degree summer day, the afternoon/evening was still met with numerous actively feeding wild brown trout in a spring creek that held a water temperature of 62 degrees. There was a sporadic mixture of several insect hatches with swallows and cedar waxwings getting in on the action just as much as the trout. Tiny dry flies, terrestrials, and tiny nymphs continue to be the recipe. The real treat this evening was being able to witness several deer with fawns play within and cross the stream on multiple occasions; we were fortunate enough to capture one fawn slowly cross the spring creek being unaware of our presence (see picture in this post). It’s often all the dynamic, complex, and diverse life surrounding you when fly fishing the Driftless spring creeks that really makes the experience and keeps you yearning for more and more of that feeling and energy you receive from it.
