Strike while the iron is hot and wow, the iron is sure hot in Iowa. The trout were first in line at the buffet and it didn’t matter what was on the menu. We didn’t know what to expect being the wind was gusting and the temperature was changing, but all of that didn’t matter as numerous hookups occurred to deeply presented nymphs. As the sun rose higher in the sky, we started seeing dimpling trout here and there; wind swept baetis were gracing the water as the trout in secluded recesses behind logs and rocks were picking them off. Another fly change brought dry fly action to the forefront with again many hookups. These hookups today produced some really nice wild trout with dark bellies and beautiful markings; and they fought like you had a beaver on the end of the line. Hot iron Iowa!
